About

I joined the department in April 2008 as Professor of Criminology and Co-Director of the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (www.sccjr.ac.uk) and am currently convenor of the Crime and Justice Research Group ( http://www.dass.stir.ac.uk/research/groups/show_group.php?id=2). I was previously Professor of Criminology at Lancaster University and, before that, Professor of Social Work and Director of the Social Work Research Centre at the University of Stirling. I have been a Visiting Professor at the Glasgow School of Social Work, University of Strathclyde, since 2007.

My research has focused primarily on community sanctions, with particular interests in women in the criminal justice system, problem-solving courts and criminal justice responses to drug-related crime. Much of my work is policy related and/or comparative/international. The latter includes research on female offenders and juvenile justice in Australia and on community sanctions in Europe. I recently co-ordinated, with Margaret Malloch, a programme of international events on women and community sanctions which is being supported by the Institute of Advanced Studies ( http://www.instituteforadvancedstudies.org.uk/Programmes/Currentprogrammes/WomenOffenders.aspx)
