As a large School we can offer students freedom and flexibility of study. We teach over 300 students in the first and second year doing Sociology and Social Policy alone, with a rating of Excellent in our most recent SHEFC Teaching Quality Assessment. We are an ESRC recognised postgraduate research training centre, as part of the Scottish Graduate School.
The School of Applied Social Science is an integrated multi-disciplinary grouping of over 50 academic staff with research and teaching interests in sociology, social policy, criminology, housing studies, social work and dementia. The School received the highest possible ratings for Sociology and Social Work in the most recent teaching quality exercises. As a result of RAE 2008, 55% of the School’s research outputs submitted were judged to be internationally excellent at 4* and 3* and, in total, 95% of the research outputs were judged to be in the internationally recognised category.
We are a leading UK social science school, located in our dedicated new buildings - The Colin Bell Building and Iris Murdoch Building on the Stirling campus. Configured to facilitate research and to promote inter-disciplinary working, the building includes specialist accommodation for postgraduate researchers and a state of the art training laboratory for social science. Students will join a large community of scholars and active researchers.
