sculptureThere is a strong research ethos with many of the more experienced staff having outstanding international research records and less experienced staff being offered an environment which will enable them to maximise their research potential. Our research activities are grouped into four broad groupings, these can be viewed under 'research groups' on the left menu, alternatively choose a group to view below.

The Department has attracted considerable sums of external research funding for our specialist centres from sources such as the Scottish Executive and SHEFC DevR. Other Departmental members from the Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology, such as the Centre for Comparative Research in Social Welfare (CCRSW), Social Work and Housing, Policy and Practice sections have been remarkably successful in raising external research funding including several grants from ESRC programmes, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the Nuffield Foundation, the Scottish Executive, Scottish Homes and the European Commission.
