I am a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) research student in the School of Applied Social Sciences at University of Stirling. My proposed PhD research is on Free Personal Care social policy utilizing a mixed methods approach to explore service user attitudes, behaviours and perspectives around quality of life and the process people use to determine if they are willing to pay for formal care services. My PhD will be completed in 2014. Currently, I am a consulting editor and on the advisory board for the International Journal of School Social Work, and a copy-editor for the Stirling International Journal of Postgraduate Research.
I received my Bachelor of Science Teaching (BS) degree in Elementary Education (with a concentration in Mathematics) from Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU, M) with Summa Cum Laude honours. I completed my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato and received recognition as an international scholar. I won the competitive MSW Scholar Award in 2010 at MSU, M for a paper about international study abroad. My MSW capstone research project was Anger Management for Adults: Developing an Evidence-Based Anger Management Program in cooperation with Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, Mankato branch office.
While completing my MSW, I was a graduate assistant for the Department of Social Work at MSU, M. I worked on multiple research projects, bid (grant) writing projects, international study abroad programming, and field placement database management. I assisted in starting up an online international journal and taught undergraduate and graduate coursework including a social development graduate/undergraduate course with travel to South Africa.
