About

I have joined the Dementia Services Development Centre in 2003 after my studies in Psychology (undergraduate) and IT (masters) at the University of Stirling. I work as a project developer in various projects, undertake small research projects and look after the IT needs of the Centre.

My projects so far included:

Dementia Now

I developed Dementia Now which is a monthly current awareness bulletin for the Dementia Centre and aims to bring together recent research, news, developments and latest additions to our specialised library. Dementia Now is now funded through the Scottish Government to make it freely available to everyone.

You can download Dementia Now issues from the DSDC Library pages.

Home Care Practice Licence (HCPL)

HCPL is a test to validate the practice of home care workers who work in unsupervised settings to ensure that they are competent to carry out their jobs safely and well. The test model is based on the UK driving test but materials are based on the Care Standards for Care At Home. It is set to test basic knowledge and practice in home care workforce and is suitable for those who have just had their induction training, those who are experienced but have not had training for some time, or for those who are unable to achieve formal qualifications. Since the pilot study in 2004-2005, HCPL has gained recognition by way of endorsement from SQA and has been part of the Forth Valley Dementia Project. HCPL is also gathering strength from variety of clients in Scotland and Ireland (and soon England) who use HCPL as part of their induction training to determine the strength and weaknesses of their training programmes, to assess whether or not a candidate is suitable for home care work, or to validate the excellent practice of many home care workers who are often undervalued within social care workforce.  HCPL won an Innovation Award from SURE in 2006.

Dementia Centre Website Development

Project management of the new Dementia Centre website which is outsourced. Tasks include ongoing content management, managing user input and general troubleshooting of the website (www.dementia.stir.ac.uk)

Dementia Centre CRM System and Online Dementia Shop

Project management of the new CRM system which manages all company business and contact relations. The project is still ongoing and customised modules are gradually being introduced. Tasks include coordinating the needs of the staff and developers of the system, handling administration of the system, assisting customisation requirements and liaising with relevant parties both within and outside of the University. The online shop will eventually handle all our commercial sales (books, DVDs etc) as well as handle conference and training events bookings.
