Alison's working career began in Bletchley Park where, without the assistance of the nearby Enigma machine, she worked for the then Department of Health and Social Security decoding applications for what were then known as Supplementary Benefits. Following a Business Law degree at The Polytechnic, Huddersfield she worked for 6 years in Trading Standards, first for Wiltshire County Council and then for Buckinghamshire County Council. Her duties as a Trading Standards Officer included conducting criminal investigations and writing prosecution reports.
Her association with the University of Stirling began with study for an MBA, closely followed by study for a PhD. Following success in both those endeavours she has garnered extensive experience of conducting literature reviews and policy mapping exercises, analysing and evaluating qualitative and quantitative data, and writing up research through various appointments as a Research Fellow.
Outside of work Alison can frequently be found playing hockey with Stirling Wanderers Hockey Club ( www.stirlingwanderershockey.co.uk ) or curling with Sauchie and Bannockburn Curling Club ( www.sauchieandbannockburncurling.org.uk ).
